THAT BUG IS QUITE INFECTIOUS
A Photo Essay
I first got my start in travel in 2009, riding on the coattails of my cousin’s newfound musical success. A wealthy Turkish artist requested her band to fly to Istanbul for an intimate performance in a palace on the Bosphorus overlooking the Asian continent the band asked me to document their adventure.
As I looked out the window of my Turkish Airline flight and watched a golden sunset slowly silhouette centuries of old mosques with towering minarets, I felt sick on excitement, an excitement that I never thought I would experience. Two weeks in Istanbul was not enough. I changed my return flight, and spent a week in Tuscany (Florence, Pistoia, Siena, and Rome) and a week in Barcelona before returning home (completely broke).
During that first year of travel, I explored Spain, Italy, Turkey and India. I continued exploring the world for the next 5 years. In 2011, I left my dream job as an art director at the Food Network for a textile design job in Dhaka, Bangladesh. After Bangladesh, I was off to Spain for two months, then South Korea for a year to teach English conversation.
